Special Invictus Guest Luke MacFarlane
Interview by Jaimie Bougie
Jaimie: Luke, you are one of the newest faces at Invictus, and yet your face looks very familiar! Where have we seen you before……?
Luke: I am an actor and have worked on Broadway, off-Broadway, film and television, but most people recognize me from the show “Brothers and Sisters”, which I was on for about 5 years.
Jaimie: When did you first start Crossfitting and what made you decide to join Invictus?
Luke: I started about a year ago at an amazing gym in LA called Crossfit Merge when a friend brought me to an open class. LA is where I call home and I am lucky to have Merge has my home base gym; since I travel a lot, I have visited boxes all over. When I was in DC I met a fellow who told me about Invictus when I mentioned that I was going to be in San Diego for a few months.
Jaimie: You’ll only be with us for a few more weeks before you have to move on; do you know where you’ll be going next and which Crossfit you’ll join? (Jaimie’s Note – this interview took place a few weeks ago so sadly, Luke is already gone!)
Luke: I am actually going back to LA for about a month so will get back in to class at Merge but then I am off to Toronto. Any one know of any good boxes there I can join?
Jaimie: You’re a pretty talented guy – actor, singer, songwriter…….what would you be if you weren’t a famous artist?
Luke: A famous artist! That’s very flattering. I have always been very interested in wood working; I have a shop in my garage and I like to build furniture. I would love to dedicate myself to this more if I had the time.
Jaimie: If you could control the music station for a full hour of class time at Invictus, which station would we be doing burpees to?
Luke: Definitely some early Stones! Not sure which station that would be. I like working out to early 60s rock.
Jaimie: What are you going to miss most about Invictus after your current project is over?
Luke: First, I love your space; its like a Crossfit gym out of Central Casting. I have been really inspired by so many of your athletes and the emphasis that is put on competition for those who want it; this brings a level of focus and grit to the gym that I like very much. Also I would be remiss to not say how impressed I was with the coaches – I learned so many valuable tips and pointers. Also your gym has got some of the best looking men and women in San Diego!
Jaimie: Do you know what your next project will be?
Luke: My next job takes me to Toronto for about a month where I am filming a new television pilot – should be fun.
Jaimie: We’ll definitely keep an eye out for it! Thanks Luke!
Keep an eye out for any future visits from Luke and his upcoming television pilot!
