Put your judging skills to the test!
Written by C.J. Martin

On Sunday, October 14th Invictus will be the host to an impressive gathering of over 100 athletes from all over the world for the 2012 OPTathlon Bash Competition. For those of you that are not familiar with OPT, let me provide a little background.

James FitzGerald is the founder of Optimum Performance Training (OPT).  James was the winner of the inaugural CrossFit Games in 2007, continued to compete through 2010, and has coached numerous CrossFit Games competitors.  Aside from all of that, he has been a mentor and great friend to me.  His influence on me as a coach has been profound, and it has extended to the rest of the Invictus coaches – 5 of them have taken courses through James’ OPT coaching certification program.  To put it simply, James has been a major contributor to the success of Invictus and our athletes.

OPT’s influence has been widespread over James’ 16 years in the fitness industry.  He has helped many coaches in the same way he’s assisted me, and the OPTathalon Bash is a gathering of all these athletes and coaches.  It will be an event for athletes and coaches to learn, celebrate accomplishments and test themselves in competition.  For more on the Bash, click here.

So what does this super cool event mean for you?

First, this is an amazing opportunity to come down to the gym on Sunday and watch/cheer for some of the top athletes in the world while they compete in a full day of competition on Sunday.  The group of attendees will include several CrossFit Games competitors, and likely many more that will be there next year.  If you are inspired by top-level competitors testing themselves, you will not want to miss this.

Second, we need a large group of volunteers to ensure that we can accommodate the needs of the 100+ athletes that will be competing on Sunday, October 14.  The “Sea of Green” has developed an amazing reputation for its support of our athletes.  I would love it if we could muster that same enthusiasm and energy to come out, volunteer and cheer for our coaches and all of the amazing athletes that will be in town for the Bash.

We have placed a sign-up sheet on the counter by the front-desk.  Please sign up for a time slot that you will be able to volunteer to give us a hand in making sure that the competition runs smoothly.  You can also send Jen an email at [email protected] to sign up to volunteer – please also include your shirt size in the email. All volunteers will be given a free t-shirt and many other notes of appreciation for their time.
