Catching up with Eli Bardowell!
Interview by Jaimie Bougie
Jaimie – Eli, when did you join Invictus and what was the deciding factor?
Eli – I joined around two years ago; Josh Pester had brought me in for one of the “Bring A Friend” days. I was impressed with the gym and how everyone was pushing one another. I figured this would be a safe environment to start a workout program.
Jaimie – In the time that you’ve been at Invictus, what changes have you seen to your overall fitness?
Eli – I have seen ups and downs; for a lot of them, I was not totally committed and I went on deployment to Kuwait for a year. I just returned in February and in that time I’ve had the most progress I have seen in years. At this point I am feeling strong and working on my technique.
Jaimie – What is your favorite part about being a part of Invictus?
Eli – My favorite thing about Invictus is how it’s such an awesome place, with great people and superb trainers (Shout out to my coach, Nichole!). The atmosphere keeps you motivated.
Jaimie – It was hard not to spot a tall guy like you walking around the Del Mar Fairgrounds last month. Did you have fun at Regionals?
Eli – This my second time going and it was way more fun than the first time. Felt a bit of pride there, knowing that all our athletes gave a 100% and I was privileged to witness it all.
Jaimie – What is your favorite workout and what is your least favorite workout?
Eli – My favorite workout is anything with olympic lifts and I hate burpees!
Jaimie – You are often seen in what appears to be a color-coordinated workout outfit – do you often plan this?
Eli – I don’t plan it – it’s more of something I am compelled to do. I can’t help it.
Jaimie – What is your current occupation? If you could be anything in the world, what would you be in terms of life and career?
Eli – I am currently a Gas Turbine Technician Electrical Chief in the Navy (GSEC for short). I have three years till I retire and follow on to my passion of the Arts. I will be going into a new career hopefully in film and broadcasting – being the guy recording it all.
Jaimie – If you were an animal, other than a human, what would you be?
Eli – That’s a weird one but I think an elephant; they have a subdued power, strength, grace…..the true king of the jungle!

This is one of the most super adorable pictures to ever grace this blog post. And it makes me happy!
