CrossFit Invictus Team for 2012 CrossFit Games Regionals
Be Inspired by Team Invictus
Written by C.J. Martin

It’s late Sunday night and I am still buzzing from an amazing weekend spent with the 9 Invictus athletes who will be competing at the Southern California CrossFit Games Regional qualifier next weekend. We make a point before every competition to celebrate the conclusion of the months of hard work that have gone into training and preparing for the main event. You see, for our athletes, the hard work is already done. The competition is the fun part. It’s the icing on the cake after 6-9 months of giving everything they had in the gym 5 days a week.

For too many people, the result is the prize. While I appreciate the results of our athletes’ hard work, we never take for granted the process, the journey. It’s the months (and for many of these athletes, the years) that they have trained side-by-side becoming a bit better each day that has led them to the point they are at now. So regardless of where they stand at the end of next weekend, we celebrate how far they have come and the sacrifices they made to get where they are now.

My pride in this group stems from their commitment and dedication, not their athletic prowess. I encourage you to consider how you measure success in your training, and think deeply as to whether it resonates with who you want to be and how you want to live your life. Do you care solely about the end result, or do you care about what goes into the process of getting you there?

If you are looking for inspiration from a group of athletes who put their heart and soul into the process/journey, and somehow come out with phenomenal results every year, I hope you will come up to the Southern California Regionals in Pomona this weekend and cheer on these nine athletes. They’ve worked their tails off for this weekend, and I am confident that every member of the Sea of Green who shows up to support them will leave proud and inspired by each of them. I hope to see you all there!

And a huge congratulations to Drew Canavero on his outstanding effort and result at the Southwest Regionals last weekend. I have had the opportunity to work with Drew since January, and despite some unexpected obstacles, Drew remained focused and consistent in his training. He earned a 7th place finish over the weekend in a very difficult region. It might not be where he wanted to finish, but all things considered, I am very proud and happy for Drew. Congratulations Drew!

Congratulations also to Brandon Mericle, who follows the Invictus Competition workouts and finished 8th in the Southwest Region!
