Creating Resolutions Check Points
Written by Cat Blatner
Now that we are well into 2016, I wanted to set a little reminder to everyone about the resolutions you might have set for yourself.
As one year ends and another begins, many people start making resolutions about what they want to change or some goals that they wish to accomplish in the new year. The issue for most people is actually remembering that they set such expectations for 2016.
It’s been just over four months and I have a question for you…have you already forgotten about your new year’s resolution?
The sad truth is that many people might be saying YES! It might be time to reassess the goal that you set for yourself or simply make smaller goals so that you can hold yourself accountable.
Set Short Term Goals
Maybe you have a goal of losing a substantial amount of weight this year. If I tell myself, “This year I’m going to lose 50 lbs”, it can be a hard pill to swallow at first. Fifty pounds will take some time to lose and therefore it can be overwhelming and discouraging to think about. In this case we need to break the year into chunks and set micro-goals within our big goal. For example, if I told myself that I was going to lose 4-5lbs every month this year, it is much less overwhelming and way more motivating. This way I can have checkpoints to make sure I am on the right track. Now, I can weigh myself at the beginning of each month and feel accomplished every time I reach my micro-goal.
Don’t Forget About Your Big Goal!
You set a new year’s resolution for a reason! If you set one this year, it means you want to create a positive change in your life. This is worth remembering, so write your goals down somewhere that you will see EVERY SINGLE DAY. Hold yourself accountable and take action towards the new you. Remember that if we swallow things whole, we might choke – so learn to take smaller bites!
