Takes one to know one!

I’ve never known a more explosive athlete, especially in his younger years. I met mike in 96, I think he was about 19 at the time. During the 5 years we played football together in university and since that time, we’ve become very good friends. As we all know, he is a midget. He’s very short, let’s just be honest. Here’s a question; have you ever seen a normal sized person stand underneath a 10 ft basketball hope, take no steps to create momentum, just straight out jump off of two feet and dunk a volleyball? Now imagine a midget doing that (would have used a basketball but hands much too small). Another question; do you know how high a regulation badminton net is? Next time you see one set up, go stand next to it. It’s about 5ft high. I’ve seen this midget without warning as we were walking in the butterdome, take 3 steps and two foot bound/jump/fly/etc over top of it, no effort. Yes, I was there. I’ve seen him do these things. Now, imagine introducing this 19 year old to crossfit pre his football training and injuries/career. All the young guys who smeebs pushes in the gym now, at his ripe old crossfit age of 34 would be forced to humble themselves and stand in awe, as I have on many occasions. It would have been a scary thing to see this 19 yr old be introduced to crossfit.

Beyond all this, smeebs eclipses these feats with this with his heart, his kindness, his modesty, and his unselfishness. As anyone who reads this and has met Mike knows, you realize after you’ve spent time with him that he’s is one in a million…literally.

You all exemplify the qualities CJ mention as well. I’m sad I won’t get to watch you three crush it at regionals but I’m looking forward to hearing about the results. Be bold and do great things!… Which I’m sure you will!

Thank you for sharing your story Mike! You are the embodiment of grace and kindness.
