The Man Flu Elixir
Written By Bryce Smith
Recently I became sick and I was pretty sure it was the flu; however, my girlfriend informed me that I was just being dramatic. She told me I have a case of the Man Flu and made me drink this concoction she whipped up. I was convinced I was dying and felt like I was swallowing knives so at this point I was willing to try anything. She wouldn’t tell me what it was and said, “Just drink it.” I was hesitant at first, but she reassured me that it would make my throat feel better and my Man Flu go away faster.
She was right.
So I’m here to share the recipe with you and all its benefits.
Ingredients
- 4 cups of water
- 2 tbs Apple Cider Vinegar: Apple cider vinegar helps to alkalize your body. A body that’s more alkaline may be more effective at fighting off viruses that cause colds and the flu. It’ll help your body fight off the virus, give you some energy, and help improve your digestion [1].
- 1/2 Lemon: High in Vitamin C, which keeps the immune system strong and neutralizes the free radicals in your body.
- Medium Size Ginger Root: Helps you sweat out the toxins in your body. It is also helpful for settling upset stomachs, nausea, vomiting and cold sweats.
- 1 tbs Honey: Soothes a sore throat, making it an effective and natural cough suppressant. This improves the body’s ability to fight infection and decreases the risk of fevers [2].
Directions
Peel and cut the fresh ginger root into multiple pieces – the smaller the better. Add ginger pieces to a small pot with two cups of water and heat until boiling. Once the water is boiling, turn down the heat and simmer for about 15 minutes. Strain the mixture into a large cup and stir in the honey. Once honey is stirred in, add the apple cider vinegar and squeeze half a lemon into the mixture as well. Stir and drink. You can store in the fridge overnight and drink cold throughout the day as well.
So if you have a common cold, a case of the Man Flu, or just want to boost your immune system regularly then cheers to you!
