Guess Who’s Back – The Return of Snax
Written by Nick Hawkes
Guess who’s back, back again, Snax is back, tell your friends!
Three years ago the tides of life took me from San Diego & CrossFit Invictus, landing me in Jacksonville, FL to pursue a CrossFit affiliate of my own, CrossFit West Jax. Once again the tides have changed and have washed me up on the sandy beaches of San Diego. The journey to Jax was an awesome one! I thoroughly enjoyed running a successful affiliate, cultivating an amazing community, and building lifelong friendships. However, three years in the blazing heat and suffocating humidity was enough for this Utah native.
Here is a quick intro for those of you that I have not yet had an opportunity to work with. I was born and raised in Salt Lake City and grew up taking advantage of all the outdoor activities that Utah has to offer; snowboarding, hiking, camping, four-wheeling, fishing, etc…. Salt Lake is also the place where I found my passion for Jiu-Jitsu and mixed martial arts. All of these passions can be quite demanding, so I have always looked for ways to improve my fitness, and that is where CrossFit comes in. Like many other stories, Crossfit exposed my areas of weakness and provided a means of shoring them up and making me a much more complete and well rounded athlete.
Since 2006 I have been involved with CrossFit in one form or another. Whether it has been as an athlete, a coach, or an owner of my own affiliate, CrossFit has provided life shifting experiences and opportunities since I started. I truly believe that CrossFit can have the same type of impact on others’ lives as it has my own. I also believe that the community that Invictus provides is the perfect platform for implementing those positive changes. CJ and the Invictus staff (as well as some of the O.G. members) have become like family over the years, always welcoming me back any time I came to SD for a visit or competition. Invictus is proof that you do not have to be blood to be family and that is why I am back. I love this place!
(CJ’s Note – We couldn’t be happier to have Nick (“Snax”) back at Invictus. Snax was one of the founding coaches of Invictus, and had a great impact on helping us form the culture and community in our early days. To have him back to help us continue the success that he helped to start is a huge boon for us. If you haven’t met Nick yet, please introduce yourself, I guarantee that you will always be greeted with a huge smile.)
Good luck in SD bro. If you ever hit Jax again, feel free to us up. Keep Calm and WOD On
Jacksonville will miss you! Thanks for introducing me to Crossfit three years ago. Life-altering…in a good way! Good luck in SD.
So glad you are back! Missed you Snax!
